Abigail Francine Lassman, known professionally as Abbe Lane, was born on
December 14, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York. She began her career as a child
performer in Broadway theaters and later joined the troupe of Cuban-inspired
musician Xavier Cugat in the early 1950s, whom she married in 1952. Lane's
musical output was heavily influenced by Latin rhythms such as mambo,
cha-cha-cha, and rumba. Her debut album, Be Mine Tonight, was released in 1957
with Tito Puente and his orchestra. She continued to release albums including
