Alex Welsh, born on July 9, 1929, in Edinburgh, Scotland, was a jazz musician
who played cornet and trumpet, and was also a bandleader and singer. He began
his career playing with local bands and moved to London in the early 1950s to
form his own group. Alex Welsh's band released several records starting in 1955
on the Decca label, including "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise" and "Blues My
Naughtie Sweetie Gives to Me". In 1961, their single "Tansy" peaked at number 45
