Singer Alexia Vassiliou (born 5 February 1964 in Famagouste, Cyprus) began her
career after her family left the city following the 1974 Turkish invasion. She
first appeared with the group Island, representing Cyprus at the 1981 Eurovision
Song Contest with "Mónika", finishing 6th. In 1982 she recorded "I am Siam" with
Iam Siam. After studying at Berklee College of Music, she returned to Eurovision
in 1987 with "Áspro-mavro", placing 7th. Her debut album Alexia(1988) sold over
500 000 copies in Greece, followed by Έλα Μια Νύχτα (1990), Νερομπογιές (1992),
