Amal Murkus, born on July 11, 1968, in Kafr Yasif, Israel, is a Palestinian
singer. Raised in a Palestinian Christian family as one of six daughters, she
began performing at the age of five and won first prize in the Arab children's
song festival in 1979. Murkus graduated from the Institute for Stage Art "Beit
Tsvi" in 1990. Murkus released her debut album Amal in 1998, followed by شوق in
2004 and Na'na' ya Na'na' in 2007. She has collaborated with numerous
international artists, including Joan Baez, Mercedes Sosa, and Robert Wyatt.
