Born on November 21 in Friesach, Andreas Gabalier grew up as one of four
children in the Styrian city of Graz. Tragic family events—most notably the
suicides of his father and his only sister—shaped the life of the
self-proclaimed “folk rock ’n’ roller” at a very early age and were later
reflected in the song “Amoi seg’ ma uns wieder” (2014). But long before
that—more precisely, while studying law—Gabalier began playing his first
