Bagdad Cafe the Trench Town, a Japanese reggae band, was formed in 2001. The group's name was derived from the 1987 West German movie Bagdad Café and the Trenchtown neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica. Their debut album, Love Sunset, was released on August 6, 2003. Fronted by Mai, who sang primarily in Japanese with English phrases interspersed, the band's music blended reggae with world music influences.
