Barbara Fairchild, born November 12, 1950, in Knobel, Arkansas, is an American
country and gospel singer. She began her career at 15, recording her first
single and performing regularly on a local TV show in St. Louis by 1965. In
1969, she signed with Columbia Records and released her debut album Someone
Special. Fairchild's breakthrough came in 1973 with the hit “Teddy Bear Song”,
which topped the country charts for two weeks and earned a Grammy nomination.
