William Allen Mays, known professionally as Bill Mays, and born on February 5, 1944, in Sacramento, California, is a jazz pianist. He developed an interest in jazz at age 15 after attending an Earl Hines concert. From 1969 to the early 1980s, Mays worked as a studio session musician in Los Angeles, accompanying notable singers such as Al Jarreau, Peggy Lee, and Frank Sinatra. In 1984, Mays moved to New York City and began leading his own bands.
