Bill Rice
Wilburn Steven Rice, born April 19, 1939 in Datto, Arkansas, was an American
country singer‑songwriter. He began playing guitar at 14 and signed his first
recording contract at 18. His first songwriting credit appeared when Elvis
Presley recorded "Girl Next Door Went A‑Walking" in 1960. Rice’s performance
career launched in 1971 with "Travelin' Minstrel Man", reaching number 33 on Hot
Country Songs. He released six singles during the decade, including a duet with
Lois Johnson, and partnered with Jerry Foster and later his wife Sharon Vaughn
