Bloc Party
Bloc Party formed in London in 1999 after singer and rhythm guitarist Kele
Okereke and lead guitarist Russell Lissack, former school acquaintances from
Essex, reconnected at the Reading Festival. Bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer
Matt Tong subsequently completed the group’s original lineup. After Okereke
handed a demo to BBC Radio 1 presenter Steve Lamacq at a Franz Ferdinand
concert, Bloc Party released their debut single, “She’s Hearing Voices,” through
Trash Aesthetics in 2004 and signed with Wichita Recordings. Their first album,
