In 1995, Norwegian guitarist Øystein G. Brun forged a plan to form a black metal
supergroup. He recruits members of Gorgoroth, Enslaved, Grim and Ulver. The new
band released the album Borknagar in 1996. On Borknagar's debut, all the songs
are still in Norwegian. On the follow-up The Olden Domain in 1997, the band
switches to English. Borknagar gradually developed into Øystein G. Brun's band,
as none of the other original members remained loyal to the project. As a
result, Borknagar changes its musical style to more progressive metal and folk
