Listening to records by Little Walter, accompanied by Muddy Waters, the young Carey learned to play the harmonica in Mississippi. Emigrating to Chicago in the '50s, he worked as a mover and shaker, earning a place in Chicago clubs with his powerful, full-bodied breath and warm voice. He came to Europe in 1968-1969 with Earl and John Lee Hooker and recorded Blues Harp for Delmark, the first of a long series of albums, most of them of the highest quality.
