Carroll Gibbons
Carroll Richard Gibbons was an American pianist, composer, and bandleader who
was born in 1903 in Clinton, Massachusetts. He traveled to London in his late
teens to study at the Royal Academy of Music and returned to the city in 1924 as
a relief pianist for the Boston Orchestra during an engagement at the Savoy
Hotel. Gibbons settled in Britain and became the co-leader of the Savoy Orpheans
alongside Howie Jacobs until 1927. After working as the Director of Light Music
at His Master's Voice, he led the New MayFair Orchestra. Gibbons assumed sole
