Carson Robison
Carson Jay Robison, born August 4, 1890, in Oswego, Kansas, was an American
country music singer and songwriter whose career spanned from the 1920s until
his death in 1957. After moving to New York City in 1924, he collaborated with
singer Vernon Dalhart, providing accompaniment on guitar, harmonica, whistling,
and vocals, notably on the landmark recording of “Wreck of the Old 97” (1924).
He became a successful composer of topical event songs, including “The Wreck of
