Claire Austin
Claire Austin, born Augusta Marie on 21 November 1918 in Yakima, Washington, was
a blues jazz singer pianist. She began performing during the 1930s, gaining
recognition while touring with the Chuck Austin Band in 1940s. Austin’s
recording career launched with Sings the Blues With Kid Ory (1954) on Good Time
Jazz, followed by When Your Lover Has Gone (1956) on Contemporary and Claire
Austin and the Great Excelsior Jazz Band (1966) on GHB. She collaborated with
Turk Murphy and appeared in San Francisco clubs for two years. Austin into
