Cristina Buarque, born Maria Christina Buarque de Hollanda in São Paulo on
December 23, 1950, was a prominent figure in Brazilian samba, known for her
dedication to preserving and interpreting the traditional music of Rio’s samba
composers and communities. She made her recording debut in 1967 on Paulo
Vanzolini’s Onze Sambas e uma Capoeira, and soon appeared on Chico Buarque de
Hollanda Vol. 3 (1968) with the track "Sem Fantasia." Her 1974 solo debut
