Cut Copy, an Australian electronic music group, was formed in 2001 in Melbourne
by Dan Whitford. Initially a solo project of Whitford, who was educated at
Scotch College and studied graphic design at Monash University, the band evolved
into a full-fledged group with Tim Hoey on guitars, Ben Browning on bass guitar,
and Mitchell Scott on drums. Whitford's early interest in dance music led him to
produce his first single "1981" under Modular Recordings. The band released
their debut EP I Thought of Numbers in 2006, which included remixes on vinyl.
