Danny Wayland Seals, known professionally as Dan Seals, was born on February 8, 1948, in McCamey, Texas. He began his music career as one half of the soft rock duo England Dan & John Ford Coley with classmate and friend John Ford Coley. The duo charted nine singles between 1976 and 1980, including their biggest hit "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight", which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976.
