Daniel Rampling, born in 1961 in Streatham, London, England, entered the music
scene as a DJ playing hip-hop, soul and funk in bars and clubs around London
during the early 1980s before turning to house music. In 1987 a holiday in Ibiza
with Paul Oakenfold, Nicky Holloway and Johnny Walker introduced him to DJ
Alfredo's eclectic style at Amnesia, inspiring him to recreate the Ibiza
experience through Shoom, regarded as the UK's first Balearic rave club, which
ran for three years and became a launching point for acid house culture. Widely
