Dave Bennett, born May 18, 1984, in Pontiac, Michigan, is an American
clarinetist specializing in swing and mainstream jazz. He taught himself to play
clarinet at age 10, studying Benny Goodman recordings, and at 12 was invited to
perform with trumpeter Doc Cheatham at New York’s Sweet Basil Jazz Club. He
later toured with the New Reformation Band and Wally’s Warehouse Waifs and, at
17, appeared as a guest soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra. Bennett formed
