Dennis N. Linde, born on March 18, 1943, in Abilene, Texas, was an American
musician and songwriter based in Nashville. He began playing guitar at age 15
and started his career with a St. Louis group called the Starlighters. Linde's
breakthrough came when he moved to Nashville in 1969, writing "Where Have All
the Average People Gone" for Roger Miller. His most notable work was writing
"Burning Love," recorded by Elvis Presley in 1972, which became an international
