Djalma Corrêa (1942–2022) was a Brazilian percussionist and composer
specializing in Música Popular Brasileira and jazz. Born in Ouro Preto, Corrêa
studied percussion and composition at the Universidade Federal da Bahia under
Walter Smetak and Ernst Widmer. In the 1960s, Corrêa accompanied artists
including Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, and Gal Costa. In the
early 1970s, Corrêa formed the Grupo Baiafro in Salvador, collaborating with the
New Dave Pike Set on the 1972 album Salomão. Corrêa released the album Baiafro:
