Edmundo Arias
Edmundo Dante Arias Valencia, born in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, on December 5,
1925, was a Colombian composer and multi-instrumentalist. He learned the
bandola, tiple, guitar, double bass, and clarinet under his father, Joaquín
Arias Cardoza, and began performing in 1948. He composed pieces such as
“Güepa... jé” and “La luna y el pescador”, establishing a reputation in the
cumbia genre. His musical group, the Orquesta de Edmundo Arias, released the
album Su mundo de cumbias, which included hits like “Cumbia del Caribe” and
