Edward Stachura, born Edward Jerzy Stachura in Charvieu, France, on August 18,
1937, was a Polish poet, writer, and singer-songwriter. Born to Polish
immigrants, Stachura relocated with his family to Poland in 1948, later studying
Romance philology at the Catholic University of Lublin and the University of
Warsaw from 1957 to 1965. Translating Spanish and French literature into Polish,
he began publishing prose and poetry, releasing his debut short story
collection, Jeden dzień, in 1962, followed by Dużo ognia in 1963. He authored
