The No Smoking Orchestra is, of course, the soundtrack to numerous Kusturica
films since Black Cat, White Cat (1998), but it is above all a group that has
been blowing a wind of freedom through the Yugoslav music scene since the early
1980s. Originally, Zabranjeno Pu?enje (No Smoking) was a Yugoslav rock band that
became a phenomenon with a corrosive debut album in 1984. After 1991, the band
split up, and part of it became The No Smoking Orchestra, a musical extension of
a poetic and realistic cinematographic work and its... one-man orchestra.
