Frank Tate
Frank Tate, born on July 18, 1943, in Washington D.C., is an American jazz
bassist. Tate grew up on Long Island and first played trumpet before switching
to double bass at age 23 while living in Greensboro, North Carolina. Tate
returned to Washington in 1968 to lead the house band at the jazz club Blues
Alley. In 1975, Tate moved to New York to join the Marian McPartland Trio and
subsequently performed with Zoot Sims. Tate worked as a freelance musician with
artists including Dave McKenna, Benny Goodman, and Lionel Hampton, participating
