Gerald English, born Gerald Alfred English on November 6, 1925, in Kingston upon
Hull, England, was a British opera singer. He was a member of the St. Paul's
Cathedral Choir and joined the Deller Consort in 1948. In 1956, he made his
operatic debut with the English Opera Group, singing Peter Quint in Benjamin
Britten's The Turn of the Screw. Throughout his career, English performed at
prestigious venues such as Glyndebourne Festival, The Royal Opera at Covent
