Gladstone Anderson, also known by the nickname "Gladdy", was a Jamaican pianist,
keyboardist, and singer who played a major part in defining ska and rocksteady.
Born on June 18, 1934, in Jones Town, Kingston, Colony of Jamaica, Anderson was
taught piano by his uncle, the keyboardist and bandleader Aubrey Adams. In the
late 1950s, Anderson began working as a session musician for producer Duke Reid
at Treasure Isle, and subsequently collaborated with producers Clement "Coxsone"
Dodd and Leslie Kong, as well as Lynn Taitt's group, the Jets. During the late
