Grup Yorum
Formed in Istanbul, Turkey in 1985, Grup Yorum is a Kurdish group founded by
students from Marmara University. Combining Kurdish folk and Turkish folk with
political lyrics, the original quartet of friends formed Grupo Yorum as a
reaction to a military coup that took place on September 12, 1980, which had
enabled the Turkish Armed Forces to seize power and establish an authoritarian
political regime. Alongside music, they also publish a magazine that focuses on
