Grupo 5, founded by brothers Elmer Yaipén Uypan and Víctor Yaipén Uypan on
January 31, 1973, in Monsefú, Chiclayo, emerged as a Peruvian cumbia and
merengue ensemble that would shape the country’s northern musical landscape. The
group’s breakthrough arrived with the 1980 single "No pongas ese disco" and the
subsequent album No pongas ese disco, followed by the album Recuérdame in 1981,
