Hortense Ellis
Younger sister of singer Alton Ellis (1938-2008), Hortense Ellis was born on
18 April 1941 in Kingston, Jamaica, and became a vocalist. At eighteen she won a
spot on Vere Johns Opportunity Hour, where her rendition of "I'm Not Saying No
at All" attracted attention and earned her Jamaica’s Best Female Vocalist award
in 1964. Ellis released her debut album Feel So Good in 1975 and her second
album Still in Love in 1977, achieving chart success with singles "Willow Tree"
and "Unexpected Places" that year. She worked with producers Ken Lack, Coxone
