Hot Club of Cowtown, an American Western swing trio, was formed in 1997. The
band's name is derived from Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s Quintette
du Hot Club de France and Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys. Elana James from Prairie
Village, Kansas, and Whit Smith from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, met through a
classified ad in 1994 and began performing together in New York City before
moving to San Diego in 1997. They added Jake Erwin on bass in 2000 after
