Ira David Sankey, born on August 28, 1840, in Edinburg, Pennsylvania, was an
American gospel singer and composer. Encouraged by his parents' love for music,
he began attending Sunday school at eight years old and underwent a religious
conversion at nineteen. In 1870, Sankey met Dwight L. Moody at a national
conference in Indianapolis, leading to a lifelong partnership. Their
collaboration included numerous religious revival campaigns across America and
