Isidore Godfrey, born Israel Gotfryd in 1900 in London, was a British music
conductor. He trained at the Guildhall School of Music, studying piano under
George B. Aitken and briefly studying conducting under Julius Harrison. He
joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company as chorus master and assistant musical
director of one of its touring companies in 1925, and became the company's
musical director in 1929 following Harry Norris' retirement. He conducted the
