Jackiem Joyner, born February 9, 1980, in Norfolk, Virginia, is a smooth jazz
saxophonist and flutist. Raised by his mother in a single-parent home, Joyner
began playing saxophone under music teacher Lou Adams while attending Fowler
High School in Syracuse, New York. He won the NAACP's ACT-SO state competition
three years in a row in three different categories: instrumental contemporary,
