In the 1950s, Jacqueline François epitomized the image of the French chanteuse
abroad with her hit "Mademoiselle de Paris" and a host of other songs: "C'est le
printemps", "Main dans la main" (a duet with her husband Henri Decker), "Tu
n'peux pas t'figurer", "Les Lavandières du Portugal", etc. The distinguished
singer, who bridged the gap between Renée Lebas and Edith Piaf, died anonymously
on March 7, 2009.
