Jamey Aebersold, born Wilton Jameson Aebersold on July 21, 1939 in New Albany, Indiana, is an American publisher, educator, and jazz saxophonist. At fifteen, Aebersold began playing with local bands and later attended Indiana University in Bloomington. In the late 1960s, Aebersold started teaching at Indiana University Southeast. A career milestone came with the release of the first volume of the Play-A-Long series in 1967, which became an internationally recognized resource for jazz education.
