Jazz at the Philharmonic
Jazz at the Philharmonic (JATP) was a series of jazz concerts, tours, and
recordings produced by Norman Granz from 1944 to 1983. The first concert took
place on July 2, 1944, in Los Angeles, featuring artists like Illinois Jacquet
and Nat King Cole. JATP gained prominence for its racially integrated lineups,
including musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Granz organized
extensive tours across the United States, Europe, and Japan. The concerts were
recorded extensively, with releases on various labels including Verve Records.
