Jeffrey Lewis has been an activist for American anti-folk since the 1990s, and
has been involved in a number of bands and musical collaborations in addition to
his other writing activities. Born in New York on November 20, 1975, he was
raised by hippie parents who introduced him to the wacky folk music inherited
from the Beat Generation. After studying literature and specializing in comics,
he began a career as a musician, following in the footsteps of his brother Jack
