Born in Virginia and partly raised in Glasgow, Scotland, Johnny Rice began his
music career in 2001, arriving in New York shortly before the 9/11 attacks on
the Twin Towers. The tragedy coloured some of his early songwriting as he worked
the local folk scene leading to the release of his debut album Trouble Is Real.
He also played Roy Orbison in the movie Walk The Line and in 2005 was introduced
by Conor Oberst to Jenny Lewis. Rice ended up in Lewis' touring band and played
on her debut solo album Rabbit Fur Coat when they established both a personal
