Jiří Malát is a Czech conductor born on July 1, 1953, in Prague. He began his
career studying viola, conducting, and composition at the Prague Conservatory
before studying under Václav Neumann at the Academy of Music in Prague. Malát
served as a conductor for the choir Hlahol and the Prague Operetta during the
1970s. He served as a conductor for the National Theatre in Prague between 1988
and 1991 and the principal conductor of the Plzeň Radio Orchestra from 1990 to
