Joe Kennedy
Joseph Kennedy, Jr., also known as Joe Kennedy Jr., was born on November
16, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was an American jazz violinist and
educator. After early instruction from his grandfather and a formative
friendship with Ahmad Jamal, he served in the U.S. Army and later studied at
Carnegie Mellon University before teaching in Richmond schools. His album
Strings By Candlelight (1962) featured Hank Jones, Kenny Burrell, and
Milt Hinton, and he joined the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in 1963, remaining
