Joshua Alexander "Joe" Loss, born on June 22, 1909 in Spitalfields, London, is a British dance band leader and musician. He began violin lessons at age seven and later played with Oscar Rabin. In the early 1930s, Loss started leading bands at venues like the Astoria Ballroom and Kit-Cat Club. His breakthrough came in 1934 when he topped the bill at the Holborn Empire. Vera Lynn appeared with the Joe Loss Orchestra in her first radio broadcast in 1935. The band gained popularity through broadcasting, recording, and annual tours.
