Joe Mondragon
Joe Mondragon was an American jazz bassist of Apache and Hispanic origin.
Mondragon was a self-taught musician who began a professional career in Los
Angeles after serving in the United States Army during World War II. A
breakthrough occurred in 1946 when Mondragon joined Woody Herman's First Herd.
Over the next two decades, Mondragon became a prominent studio bassist on the
West Coast, contributing to albums by artists including June Christy, Chet
Baker, Shelly Manne, and Ella Fitzgerald. Film soundtrack contributions include
