John Michael Talbot, born on May 8, 1954, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is an
American Catholic singer-songwriter. He began playing guitar at a young age and
by 15 was performing with the country folk-rock band Mason Proffit, which he
formed with his older brother Terry. In 1976, Talbot released his first solo
album John Michael Talbot, followed by The New Earth in 1977. His spiritual
journey led him to convert to Catholicism and join the Secular Franciscan Order
