Shannon Jonell Showes, known professionally as Jonell, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1977 and pursued a career as an American contemporary R&B singer. She began her musical journey in 2001, when her hit "Round & Round" appeared on producer Hi-Tek's album Hi-Teknology, with a remix featuring Method Man that landed on the How High soundtrack. In 2003, she was set to release her debut album Know Me on the Def Soul label, led by the single "So Whassup" featuring Redman, though the album was ultimately shelved and never released.
