Joost Lijbaart, a Dutch drummer born on September 25, 1967, in Amsterdam, began
his musical journey with classical percussion training before studying at the
Conservatorium of Hilversum from 1986 to 1991. He also studied African
percussion in Senegal under Doudou N’Diaye Rose and performed works by Iannis
Xenakis, John Cage, and Steve Reich. In 1989, Lijbaart formed a trio with Yuri
Honing, which later evolved into the group Orient Express. His breakthrough came
