José Velázquez Jiménez, known professionally as José Vélez, is a Spanish singer
born on November 19, 1951, in Telde, Gran Canaria, Spain. In the late 1960s, he
began his musical career as part of the group Grupo Marabilla before pursuing a
solo career. In 1968, he participated in the talent contest Salto a la fama in
Madrid, which led him to establish himself in the city. His breakthrough came
with his third single "Vino griego" (1974), a cover of Udo Jürgens'
