Joy Denalane
German soul and R&B singer Joy Maureen Denalane was born in West Berlin on June
11, 1973. After initially singing in the reggae and soul bands Culture Roots and
Family Affair, she signed her first record deal as a solo artist in 1996.
Together with the hip-hop band Freundeskreis, she recorded the song "Mit dir" in
1999, which climbed to number 9 in the German charts. Three years later, she
released her debut album Mamani, which reached number 8 in the charts with the
