Kashtin
Kashtin, a Canadian folk rock duo, was formed in 1984 by Claude McKenzie and
Florent Vollant, two Innu musicians from the Maliotenam reserve on the Saint
Lawrence River in Quebec. The band began as a cover group before transitioning
to original material that blended mainstream folk rock with traditional Innu
makushan drums. Kashtin's breakthrough came with their self-titled debut album
Kashtin, released in 1989, which was recorded in the Innu-aimun language and
